A Creative Painter

PAINTER is a great set of letters to find on your rack. As well as the obvious word it also makes REPAINT and PERTAIN. Sometimes you can’t fit any of those words on the board, but if you can play through another letter this combination makes some interesting 8 letter words. In particular I like the fact that it makes a word with each of the vowels.

PAINTER + A = ANTIRAPE Concerned with rape prevention PAINTER + E = APERIENT A laxative PAINTER + I = PAINTIER More PAINTY. Covered in paint PAINTER + O = ATROPINE Medicine made from deadly nightshade. Also ATROPIN PAINTER + U = PAINTURE The art of painting

There is also at least one word through 6 of the 7 common consonants. The only exception is the letter N

Poutine is regarded as the national dish of Canada. It is French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. Not exactly haute cuisine, but then I don’t even know what New Zealand’s national dish would be.

Since we are on a culinary theme, rouille is a sauce made from red chillies, garlic and breadcrumbs. Commonly used in the French dish bouillabaisse.

Segugio was the most interesting word. I believed myself to be reasonably knowledgeable about dogs, but I had never heard of the breed. Apparently it is a very popular hunting dog in Italy. Because it has scent tracking ability as good as a bloodhound, it is also used in search and rescue.

Sometimes you hang on to ING in the hope of getting a bonus word that is easy to spot. However it doesn’t always work out that way. These are all ING words, but none of them end in ING:
