Mundane Muggle Words

While it is fun to learn some new and unusual words, perhaps it would be a good idea to focus on some mundane words that are not easy to unscramble. So instead of a list this time there is a quiz of twenty bingos. 10 of 7 letters and then 10 of 8 letters. First the 7 letter words:

A A B E G L R

D E E L O P R

A E E L O P R

A E F I M R R

A A E L M O T

A F I I L R T

A G N O R S T

A I L S T U W

C D E I M O R

D E M N S T U

All of them are words that you should not have to ask what they mean. Just because they are mundane words though does not mean that you would use them everyday.

For example I considered including the word APESHIT, but thought maybe it was just a little too unusual even though everyone would know what I meant if I said “I just told him to move his car from the handicapped space and he went apeshit”

Another word that I considered was SICARIO. Some people would ask what that meant. It would be even more unfamiliar before the 2015 movie “Sicario” or the 2018 movie “Sicario – Day of the Soldado". Our dictionary describes it as a hired gun or assassin, particularly in South America. It is interesting we know about the mafia and omerta, the code of silence, but sicario and soldado (a Spanish soldier) still seem unfamiliar. I wonder if we were equally ignorant about the mafia before the Godfather movies.

Anyway, we shall press on with 10 words of 8 letters:

A E I L N P T T

C E E E I L N S

A D E E F L O R

A D G N N O R S

A E E M N R S U

A E E N O R V W

D E G I I L N T

E E F N O R T U

A D G E N R R U

A A E F L M O T

At this point I recommend that you write down this week’s quiz and see how many you can solve in a day or so before you return. As the title suggests they are all mundane, muggle words, but I am hoping that I have chosen some words that are hard to unscramble, so I am not sure what to suggest is a good score.

MUGGLE is allowed at scrabble, but it is not an invention of J.K. Rowling.

The word actually dates back to the 13th Century.
