An Odd NZ Word

I came across an odd word while looking at some randomly generated bingos. The meaning surprised me as well. It was:

(New Zealand) The practice of taking early retirement with financial compensation from the police force.

Do you know what the kiwi word is for that? Am I the only one that didn’t know? The answer is at the end of the blog. In the meantime, this blog has been brought to you by the letters P and F for Police Force

A Grade Challenge

Just 3 words for you to find and they are all fairly normal words. You won’t be able to claim you have not heard of them.

You have:  F   P   R   A   T  ….  and 2 blanks as well

It can sometimes be hard to spot words with 2 blanks. Can you find all 3?

B and C Grade Study List

Some 3, 4 and 5 letter words that include an F and a P. Not a comprehensive list. I have just chosen words that some people might not have known

FAP – Drunk or befuddled. Does NOT take an S

FLIMP – To rob while diverted by an accomplice

FLYPE – To turn partly inside out

FRAP – To draw fast with ropes or cables. FRAPPED and FRAPPING. It takes an E hook for FRAPE. That is a completely different meaning. To alter someone’s details on a social website without their consent. Verb extensions for that do not need the second P, so FRAPED and FRAPING are both good

PELF – Wealth or riches, especially when dishonestly acquired

PFFT – Used to express a sudden ending

PFUI – An expression of scorn or contempt

PLUFF – To throw out in puffs like smoke or dust

POUF – To give a puffed shape to hair. Also POUFF and POUFFE.

PUFFA – As in a puffa jacket. Does NOT take an S

PRIEF – An obsolete spelling of proof. Can also be PREIF

SPIF – A postage stamp perforated with the initials of the firm. It can take another F for SPIFF which is a verb meaning to make something SPIFFY

Answers to A Grade Challenge

FLYTRAP, PARFAIT and UPDRAFT

The word which means ‘The practice of taking early retirement with financial compensation from the police force’ is:

PERFING

It is an unusual -ING word because the base word does not exist. x-PERF-x is not allowed and neither is x-PERFED-x. However, you can put an S on it for PERFINGS.
