Vowelitis shouldn't be a fatal disease

The answers to the last quiz were: DEFIANT, DIVERGE, FUDGIER, INFIDEL, EYELIDS, CODRIVE, NEIGHED, SEADOGS, SUNBEAT, GNOSTIC.

Isn’t it interesting that AGNOSTIC meaning “not knowing” is such a well-known word, but GNOSTIC meaning “knowing” looks so strange?

This week’s list will be the 29 words of 5 letters that have 4 vowels. In each case the companion words that can be made by putting a letter in front of or behind the main word have been included in brackets:

AALII (AALIIS) ADIEU (ADIEUS, ADIEUX) AECIA (AECIAL)

AERIE (FAERIE, AERIED, AERIER, AERIES) AIDOI AINEE

AIOLI (AIOLIS) AIYEE AQUAE AREAE AUDIO (AUDIOS)

AULOI AURAE (LAURAE) AUREI BOOAI (BOOAIS)

COOEE (COOEED, COOEES) EERIE (FEERIE, PEERIE, EERIER)

LOOIE (BLOOIE, FLOOIE, LOOIES) LOUIE (LOUIES) MIAOU (MIAOUS)

OIDIA OORIE (COORIE, GOORIE, TOORIE, OORIER) OUIJA (OUIJAS)

OURIE (COURIE, LOURIE, POURIE, TOURIE, OURIER) URAEI

QUEUE (QUEUED, QUEUER, QUEUES) ZOAEA (ZOAEAE, ZOAEAS)

ZOEAE ZOOEA (ZOOEAE, ZOOEAL, ZOOEAS)

This week’s quiz is based around the letters: A – A – I – N – O – R – T

No, there are no 7 letter words in that combination, but using another letter on the board there are 8 possible words of 8 letters. 5 fairly normal words, for intermediate players to find, and 3 more words that are probably experts only. The only 5 letters on the board that can help you make a word are C, D, E, L and M. Obviously some letters have more than one answer, since there are 8 words to find. However I won’t tell you which ones they are. You have to work that out for yourself.

Cheers

Patrick
