As I was picking up scoresheets on Monday, I noticed a board where someone had played AULI. They had been lucky to not get challenged because it is not a word. There is a trap with similar letters that you can easily fall into because it is in common usage. Many greengrocers use CAULI as a word that is short for CAULIFLOWER, but the Scrabble Dictionary disagrees with them. Interestingly, if they advertise CAULIS they are using an allowable word. It is a woody stem which bears leaves. The plural is CAULES.
