Find The Theme

I know that most people just scroll down to the answers rather than trying to solve my anagrams. However I urge you to have a go this time. There is a theme and if you just find that theme all the answers just fall into place.

A few weeks ago I set a puzzle at the start of a Monday night which was two anagrams. Andrew was the only one to solve them. They were SHOELACE and BOOTLACE. The first anagram on this set is very nearly the same as BOOTLACE.

Just a U instead of the second O and it is:

BLUECOAT – Someone dressed in blue

BLUECAP – A year old salmon with a blue spotted head

BLUEFIN – A species of fish found in Lake Michigan

BLUEGOWN – A former class of licensed beggars in Scotland

BLUEHEAD – A marine fish of the wrasse family

BLUEJAY – A bird

BLUENOSE – A nickname for someone from Nova Scotia

BLUESMAN – A musician who plays the blues

BLUEWING – The blue-winged teal. A duck

BLUETIT – A bird

BLUESTEM – A kind of prairie grass

BLUESIER – More bluesy. Resembling blues music.

A couple of them have anagrams:

BLUESMAN is also ALUMENS (egg whites)

BLUENOSE is also NEBULOSE (like a nebula - cloudy)

This wasn’t an exhaustive list of BLUE words. Just a dozen that I thought you might like.

One extra one I liked, and hadn’t seen before was:

BLUETTE – A short, playful piece of music

Happy Scrabbling

Patrick
